Dragon Keeper Thymara (about 11 years old) and her father visit Cassarick to view the hatching of the dragons from the cocoons the serpents that Tintaglia had led up the river had created. Tending these stunted dragons has left the people of the surrounding area weary. But something is wrong with the creatures each is inferior or weak in some way, and many die. The original dragon keepers and their ages when they first signed up for the expedition were: Thymara - Female, 16 years old, loved by her father, but resented by her mother, with claws instead of proper fingers and toes and light scaling all over her body.
